Keep your porch, garage, and other lights on at night. Even the slightest deterrent can help protect you and your family.
Peddler's licenses are required by a Johnson County ordinance. Here is the full ordinance:johnsoncountysheriff.com/peddlers-ordinance.Call the sheriff at (317) 736-9155 if one is not produced. Also in the ordinance: No person shall: With or without a license, enter upon private property where any form of sticker or sign is clearly displayed advising that the occupant does not wish to be called upon by peddlers, canvassers, and/or solicitors, such as a “No Soliciting” sign;
Keep doors locked, even when you are home.
Don't leave valuables in your car and always keep it locked, day and night.
Keep your garage doors closed unless you can keep an eye on them. People have been known to enter a garage undetected. This lets them steal from your garage or even gain entrance to the house.
Keep house windows closed.
Use timers with inside lights to simulate activity inside the house.
For safety on the streets at night, please do not park cars overnight. This allows cars traveling the streets to navigate the streets safely. Overnight parking is prohibited by the covenants.
If you see a situation that keeps you from feeling safe, please report it to the Johnson County Sheriff at (317) 736-9155 and to [email protected] so it can be reported to our Crime Watch Coordinator, Bob Chastain.
