Events will soon be filling the calendar, but don't forget the holidays celebrated this month, including Labor Day on the 6th and Patriot Day on the 11th! Labor Day is a great time to take one last Summer vacation, so enjoy this time with friends and family!
School is in full swing! Don't be shy about reminding speeders and stop sign runners that they are breaking the law and endangering our children.

Olive Branch Road Railroad Crossing
White River Citizens United is working with the Indiana Rail Road Company to see if their priorities can be changed.
According to Johnson County traffic counts, Olive Branch Road has significantly more traffic than Whiteland Road.
Update-08.10.10-We will be contacting the railroad in October, when they prepare the 2011 budget,
Following is a statement from Indiana Rail Road Company regarding this crossing:
Our engineering department has advised me that contracts for the Whiteland Rd. project have already been let, so that project will proceed on schedule. If the county wishes to fund resurfacing of the Olive Branch Rd. crossing, it is possible that the work could be done this year. However, the railroad’s budget for this season has already been completely apportioned. Alternatively, the county could elect to install roadside signs warning motorists of the surface condition and to reduce speed. I realize that this is not the answer that you wished to hear; however, I hope that you’ll understand the factors contributing to the plans for Whiteland Rd. We have been making aggressive headway on crossing surfaces, having renewed approximately 75 public crossings over the past three years, and I will remind our engineering managers to strongly consider Olive Branch Rd. for their 2011 plan, which will be put together this fall.

The Future of White River Township Government
As you probably know, the White River Township Board and the Greenwood Common Council have both approved the government reorganization plan that was created by the White River Township/City of Greenwood Reorganization Committee.
The result of this reorganization would be to merge the township into the City of Greenwood.
The public ballot question has been postponed and will not be included in the November 4th election. Updated information will be reported as it becomes available.

Raised Sidewalks

Please take a look at your sidewalk to determine if there are any raised sections. There are a few in the neighborhood that could cause a serious accident to occur.

Crime Watch Report-Mail Box Contents TheftsA resident has reported that there have recently been mail box contents thefts in some neighborhoods around the area Thieves look for mail boxes with the red flag up, indicating outgoing mail is in the box, steal the mail and copy the bank account numbers from any checks. Then, they total all the checks and create a phony computer-printed check using those bank numbers, which they then cash. It would be wise to take your mail to a drop box or to the post office.
Crime Watch Report-Suspicious Activity
There have been several reports of suspious-looking activity in the neighborhood, especially in the pre-dawn hours. The reports usually are about seeing a van or car roaming the neighborhood, with no apparant reason. Please be vigilant and if you see such activity, call the Johnson County Sheriff 317-736-9155 and also report it to Brockton Crime Watch . Describe the vehicle, the vehicle occupants, and get the license number, if possible. Of course, do nothing to jeopardize your safety.
Crime Watch Report-Jury Duty Scam
This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant.. Give out any of this information and your identity was just stolen..
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system.
The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites , warning consumers about the fraud.
