February Love is all around this month!
February may be the shortest month of the year, but there are a lot of holidays that happen this month. Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, it’s all in February! There are sure to be many activities taking place within your community so update the Community Calendar and connect with your neighbors!
Crime Watch Reports!
There have been several reports of suspious-looking activity in the neighborhood, especially in the pre-dawn hours. The reports usually are about seeing a van or car roaming the neighborhood, with no apparant reason. Please be vigilant and if you see such activity, call the Johnson County Sheriff 317-736-9155 and also report it to Brockton Crime Watch . Describe the vehicle, the vehicle occupants, and get the license number, if possible. Of course, do nothing to jeopardize your safety.
Jury Duty Scam
This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant.. Give out any of this information and your identity was just stolen..
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma, Illinois, and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system.
The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites , warning consumers about the fraud.

Olive Branch Road Closure
Below is a statement from the County Highway Director regarding work to be done on Olive Branch Road.
"The advance warning signs were placed in anticipation of a 2-3 day closure for some culvert maintenance. The weather did not allow, so the work will not take place until the school district is on spring break. New advanced warning signs will be placed prior to the closure."
Gary Vandegriff, Johnson County Highway Director
The Future of White River Township Government
As you probably know, the White River Township Board and the Greenwood Common Council have both endorsed the government reorganization plan that was created by the White River Township/City of Greenwood Reorganization Committee.
The result of this reorganization would be to merge the township into the City of Greenwood.
As it stands right now, you will have the opportunity to vote for or against the merger on May 4, 2010.
